Academic: chart / graph / process (150 words). GT: letter (150 words).
Essay response to a prompt (250 words).
- Suggested pacing: 20 minutes for Task 1, 40 minutes for Task 2.
- Task 2 is weighted twice as heavily as Task 1.

60 minutes total. Task 1: 20 minutes, 150 words. Task 2: 40 minutes, 250 words. Task 2 is worth twice as much as Task 1.
Academic Task 1 — Line graph
The graph below shows the average number of hours per week that people in four European countries spent watching television between 2000 and 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Data (hours per week): UK — 2000: 26, 2010: 28, 2020: 24. Germany — 2000: 22, 2010: 25, 2020: 20. France — 2000: 24, 2010: 26, 2020: 21. Sweden — 2000: 18, 2010: 20, 2020: 17. All four countries rose slightly to a peak around 2010, then fell by 2020.
Academic Task 2 — Discussion essay
Some people believe that governments should invest more in public transport, while others think the priority should be building better roads for private vehicles. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
